Miami

Miami-Dade County is located in the southeastern tip of Florida just south of Broward County. Along with Broward and Palm Beach Counties, Miami-Dade is part of the South Florida metropolitan area and its County Seat is Miami. According to 2005 census estimates, it has a population of 2,253,362. In terms of population, it is the largest county in Florida and the eighth largest in the United States.

Miami-Dade is named for Francis L. Dade, a soldier killed in 1835 while fighting in the Second Seminole War. Formerly Dade County, voters chose to change its name to Miami-Dade in 1997.

Miami-Dade is probably best known as a playground for the rich and famous and for its phenomenal year round climate. Many well-known stars, singers, designers and models own luxurious mansions along the bay and more are buying into the South Florida lifestyle.
